Dentistry for Cavities and Tooth Decay

in Buffalo, Amherst, Lancaster and Orchard Park, NY

At Forestream Dental Group in Buffalo, N.Y., we practice preventive care dentistry, which means our goal is to prevent cavities, gum disease and other oral health problems such as tooth decay. When you become a patient of Forestream Dental Group, we'll teach you and your family all there is to know about great oral health and preventing cavities and other dental issues.

The cause of cavities and tooth decay is bacteria and their acidic by-products. When left in your mouth and on your teeth too long, the acid eats away at your enamel and provides more space for bacteria to feed and multiply, excreting more acid, which eats away at more of your tooth tissue.. and thus a vicious cycle is established which eventually leads to severe pain, infection, tooth loss, and bone loss.

Good Dental Hygiene Habits

The great news is that we know good oral hygiene can rid your mouth of most of the harmful bacteria, keeping your smile clean and healthy. You've probably heard these tips before but here's a reminder of what good oral hygiene entails:

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a soft-bristled brush
  • Floss at least once a day nighttime is best
  • Rinse with an antimicrobial mouthwash to kill more bacteria
  • If you eat exceptionally sticky or sugary foods, brush if you can or rinse your mouth with water if your toothbrush isn't at hand
  • Schedule (and keep) your six-month check-up appointments with Dr. Evola

At your regular check-ups, we'll also do our part to keep you cavity-free. We'll make sure you're brushing and flossing properly and if you're not, we'll teach you how. We have an intraoral camera that's hooked up to a monitor so that we can show you on the screen the places that you're missing with your toothbrush or floss. We'll take periodic x-rays and use our DIAGNOdent early cavity detector to make sure we ward off cavities and tooth decay before they come.

Your good dental health is as important to us as it is to you. If it's been a while since your last check-up, don't be embarrassed but call us right away to get back into the groove of regular dental care. Call or email Forestream Dental Group today to schedule an appointment. If you have questions we can't answer over the phone, ask to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Don't forget to schedule dentistry appointments for your children too! We're conveniently located in the Buffalo, N.Y. area and we proudly serve Orchard Park, Lancaster, Amherst and West Seneca too.
