Dentures

in Buffalo, Amherst, Lancaster and Orchard Park, NY

Dentures are a great and affordable solution when all the teeth are missing in either the upper or lower jaw, or when too many teeth are missing to be restored by bridge work. Forestream Dental Group, located in the Buffalo area, offers comprehensive services for the fabrication of full and partial dentures.

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth typically made out of an acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with porcelain or metal for additional structural support. Depending on whether you need upper and lower dentures or one or the other, Dr. Evola will decide if resin or porcelain dentures are best for you.

Functions of dentures

Dentures can:

  • Help maintain and even strengthen facial muscles
  • Rid you of pronunciation problems caused by missing teeth
  • Aid with chewing ability
  • Improve the appearance of your smile

Types of Dentures

There are two main types of dentures:

  • Complete - replacing all the teeth
  • Partial - filling in the spaces created by missing teeth and preventing other teeth from moving

Both types are finely crafted and custom-fitted just for your mouth.

How Dentures are Done

The denture-making process takes about one month and four appointments.

  • The initial diagnosis is made
  • An impression and a wax bite are made to determine vertical dimensions and proper jaw position
  • A "try-in" is placed to assure proper color, shape and fit
  • Your final denture is placed, following any minor adjustments

As a new denture wearer, you will need time to get accustomed to your new "teeth" because even the best fitting dentures will feel awkward at first. While most people can begin to speak normally within a few hours, many report discomfort with eating for several days to a few weeks.

Importance of Regular Check-ups

We should all have regular check-ups with the dentist but it becomes especially important for denture wearers. As you age, gum tissue shrinks and your dentures may become loose or uncomfortable. There's nothing wrong - it's just part of that darned aging process. Regular check-ups will allow Dr. Evola to ensure that your dentures continue to fit properly and aren't rubbing unnecessarily on your gums. He'll keep your smile looking like a dream and feeling comfortable for many years to come.

Another option for people who have some or all of their teeth missing is dental implants. They are more expensive than dentures but they are permanent and feel and act just like your natural teeth.

If you're embarrassed by missing teeth, Dr. Evola can give you a whole and beautiful smile again. Call or email our Buffalo office today to schedule your complimentary consultation with Dr. Evola. He'll answer all of your questions about dentures or dental implants and help you make the right decision for you!
