Lasers and laser technology are becoming more of a necessity in U.S. dental practices. At Forestream Dental Group in Buffalo, New York, we currently use three lasers for laser dentistry.
Dr. Evola carefully evaluated the lasers and their potential uses before bringing them into the practice. One of our main goals is treating all of our patients as we would treat our own families. Types of Lasers
There are many types of lasers in use in dental practices around the country. In our office we use two different lasers: a soft-tissue laser and the DIAGNOdent laser.
Soft tissue laser
For surgical applications, the soft tissue laser is superior to conventional treatment in many ways and is sometimes called a "bloodless scalpel". At Forestream Dental Group, we use the soft tissue laser for biopsies, gum lifts and recontouring the gum line. The laser is more accurate than a scalpel, is sterile because it kills bacteria, and it leads to a faster healing time for most patients. It can also be used in the treatment of gum disease and snoring.
DIAGNOdent laser
The DIAGNOdent laser is truly one of the most amazing technologies to come along for dentistry in quite some time. This laser is an early detector of decay and has a 93-95% success rate. If detected early enough, spots that are predicted to become cavities can be thoroughly cleaned and sealed, thus preventing a cavity and later fillings.
Any preventative work we can do now for you and your children is well worth it. If we can eliminate the need for uncomfortable fillings, why wouldn't we? The DIAGNOdent is one of the best tools we have to serve our pediatric patients.
