Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) affect the joint where the lower jaw meets the skull.
Our Buffalo-area patients who suffer from TMJ can experience a variety of symptoms ranging from mild discomfort to excruciating pain. Some turn to medication to mask the symptoms, but a comprehensive dental approach to treating TMJ helps many patients find permanent relief.
TMJ presents as a set of symptoms, and some of these symptoms can, indeed, be treated with medications like pain relievers. Some patients, especially those who might not be good candidates for more comprehensive treatments, may be able to effectively treat their TMJ with certain medications, especially if symptoms tend to come and go.
Such relief is, however, usually short-lived because the underlying cause of the TMJ disorder remains. If you suffer from one or more of the following chronic conditions, a neuromuscular dentist may be able to offer long-term relief.
- Frequent headaches
- Locking jaw or a jaw with limited range of motion
- Clicking or popping in the jaw, especially when you chew
- Neck, back, or shoulder pain
An experienced neuromuscular dentist can diagnose and treat TMJ using the latest dental technologies. The treatments may not be as simple as popping a pill or two, but the results can be life-changing. At Forestream Dental, Dr. Evola takes the time to understand your symptoms and design a program of treatment and recovery that can dramatically reduce or even eliminate your TMJ symptoms.
If you or a loved one suffers from the debilitating effects of TMJ, relief may just be a phone call away. Please contact Forestream Dental online or by telephone today to schedule an appointment with our Buffalo TMJ dentist, Dr. Larry Evola: 716-656-8686.
