May is National Dental Care Awareness Month. Do you know how to maintain peak oral health?
Your Daily Routine
Dental health begins at home. The care you take of your teeth every day helps to prevent issues like gum disease, tooth infection, and cavities, and helps to keep your teeth strong and in place for life. However, oral health cannot be maintained passively nor can it be optimally maintained without some effort. Fortunately, once you establish a routine, it becomes very easy to keep on top of your oral health.
To keep your teeth and gums as healthy as possible, you should:
- Brush your teeth when you wake, after every meal, and before you go to bed
- Floss before you brush at least twice daily
- Follow any special care instructions provided by your dentist
Optimizing your daily routine is the first step in obtaining and maintaining peak oral health. If you struggle with any aspect of your daily routine, we can provide assistance during your regularly scheduled visits.
Professional Dental Care
Taking time to optimize your daily routine will go a long way in helping to prevent oral health issues. Alone, however, it may not be able to prevent all of them. This makes biannual visits to our office an important part of your dental care as well.
Biannual visits serve several functions, not the least of which is allowing us to thoroughly check your teeth, gums, and their support structures for signs of decay, disease, malformation, and misalignment. When these issues are caught early on, the serious problems they can cause can often be largely avoided. These appointments are so important that they are covered by nearly all dental insurance plans. Be sure to check with yours to learn about all of your benefits.
