There has long been discussion among cosmetic dentists like Dr. Larry Evola in Buffalo who treat Temporomandibular (TMJ) Dysfunctions, about whether these disorders are more widespread and far-reaching than what’s been reported in even our most updated research.
The reason is that TMJ/TMD is still widely misunderstood.
Research does indicate that between 20 to 30 percent of the world's adult population suffer from some degree of TMJ Dysfunction.
Among the newly-diagnosed: Iggy Azalea, the young and glamorous pop-radio sensation behind the hit songs “Black Widow” and “Fancy.”
Four of the most common symptoms of TMJ disorders are:
- Facial/jaw pain
- Clicking or popping jaw noises
- Headaches
- Difficulty eating or speaking
Iggy Azalea began “Tweeting” earlier this year about how her TMJ diagnosis, which has caused the entertainer acute discomfort and tends to be exacerbated by stress.
"I'm gonna make more of an effort to take care of myself in 2015, stay away from all the drama & hopefully not have any flare ups," Azalea reportedly put out on Twitter in January of this year.
The singer and model added in a separate Tweet: "I don't think western medicine all the way acknowledges what a huge toll mental stress takes on our bodies. But I do believe it is a factor."
People magazine has the reported that this fresh TMJ diagnosis is causing Azalea to make changes to her schedule ̶̶̶̶ a step that many of Dr. Evola’s Buffalo TMJ patients will understand.
