One of the questions we hear most often from our Buffalo-area patients after undergoing teeth whitening is, “How can I keep my teeth white for as long as possible?” This is a great question, and it's exactly the right one to ask after a whitening procedure.
After all, you want the results of your whitening treatment to last for a while. A bright, white, photogenic smile is very important, and keeping your teeth looking their best is obviously a priority.
Here are three tips for prolonging your teeth whitening results for as long as possible:
- Above all else, practice sound dental hygiene. There's nothing you can do that will have a bigger impact on your teeth than this. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss on a daily basis. Doing this will help keep your teeth white.
- Limit your consumption of foods and beverages that stain your teeth. Examples include red wine, coffee, soda, fruit juice and other foods and drinks that are heavily acidic. If you do consume these items, use a straw – it will ensure the liquid largely bypasses your teeth.
- Finally, try to brush your teeth immediately after a meal. This will enable you to clear the staining, damaging residue off your enamel as soon as possible. If left undisturbed on your teeth, this residue will damage your enamel and eat away at it, exposing the discolored material underneath.
Of course, the reality is that you can do everything right and still, eventually, find yourself in need of another teeth whitening treatment. We can help you with this and ensure you undergo a safe, effective teeth whitening procedure.
