Sleep apnea is a serious disorder that, when not properly treated, may prove fatal. In the short video below, Depew dentist Dr. Larry Evola discusses how we work with local sleep doctors to help men and women diagnosed with sleep apnea get the sound and restful sleep they deserve.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea
The most common indication of sleep apnea is periods of breath cessation during normal sleep cycles. These may be accompanied by loud choking or gasping noises as breathing resumes. Snoring is also a major indicator of sleep apnea.
In addition to these symptoms, sleep apnea may result in:
- Frequent headaches and/or sore throat
- Excessive daytime fatigue
- Concentration and memory problems\Mood shifts
Weight gain, various skin conditions, and even hair loss can be related to inadequate sleep as well and may be consequences of untreated sleep apnea.
Treating Sleep Apnea
Dr. Evola treats sleep apnea with a customized orthotic device that gently holds soft tissue in place during sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when soft tissue blocks the airways, literally obstructing air flow. The devices provided by Dr. Evola prevent this issue, allowing oxygen to flow properly throughout the course of sleep.
Of course, if your sleep apnea is related to lifestyle choices such as smoking, general inactivity, or an unhealthy diet, changes will need to be made before your treatment can be effective. During your time in our care, we will work directly with you and your sleep doctor to determine the most effective ways to supplement and enhance your sleep apnea treatment.
