Systemic Issues
During your regularly scheduled visits to our office, your teeth and gums will be thoroughly examined for signs of decay or disease. We will also be checking for:
- Excessive tooth wear – a common indication of large amounts of stress and a good indicator of TMD
- Chronic dry mouth – a condition that may be caused by certain medications, but can also be a symptom of serious issues such as Sjogren’s syndrome and diabetes
- White webbing inside the cheeks – this can be caused by certain mouthwashes, but may also be the common skin disease Lichen planus
- Cracked, crumbling, or eroded teeth – oftentimes, these issues are caused by Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or acid reflux disorder)
Your biannual visits to our Amherst area office are important for both your oral and general health. During your visits, Dr. Evola can detect potential health issues and help you determine how best to address them before they become serious health concerns.
