Oral Surgery

Depew Dentist Near Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Lancaster & Orchard Park

You would probably agree that oral surgery, or any type of surgery, is generally not a fun prospect, even for patients of a skilled Buffalo-area dentist such as Forestream Dental.

For our patients at Forestream Dental in Depew, Cheektowaga and nearby Buffalo area, we strive to make all of our oral surgical procedures a pleasant and stress-free experience. We have advanced technologies that make surgery easier and faster than in times past.

Sedation Dentistry

This advance in dentistry allows us to perform procedures while you are drowsy and relaxed. It is given along with a local anesthetic so that you will feel no pain.

This is not the same as sleep dentistry, where a general anesthesia is given to make you entirely unconscious. And it does not come with the same risks. With sedation dentistry you are relaxed and sleepy but still partly conscious and able to respond to requests. It is unlikely, however, that you will remember much, if anything, about your procedure. Sedation dentistry takes away a lot of the anxiety associated with surgery.

Laser Dentistry

Another wonderful advance is the use of dental lasers in oral surgery. Sometimes referred to as a "bladeless scalpel", the laser is more precise than a scalpel and yet causes less bleeding, less swelling and allows for a faster recovery. In our practice, we most commonly use a soft-tissue laser for gum reshaping and biopsies.

Types of Oral Surgeries

The most common type of oral surgery that we perform at Forestream Dental is the removal of wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth, or the third molars, often try to come in between the ages of 17 and 24 and many people don't have the room in their mouths to accommodate them. If you live in Depew, Cheektowaga or the Buffalo area and are having problems with your wisdom teeth, email or call us to schedule an appointment.

For some, the third molars pose no problem at all. For others, they can cause huge problems from pain to infection or gum disease, even causing decay in neighboring teeth. If you have wisdom teeth that are causing pain or are partially erupted, you need to schedule an appointment to determine if they are causing any gum disease or other problems.
