Teeth Whitening at Forestream Dental

Because so many people want beautiful teeth, teeth whitening has become big business. You can find a lot of products at your local drug store, all promising you a shining, shimmering smile.

These products aren't the right choices for you. You need custom-designed teeth whitening treatments overseen by an experienced dentist. At Forestream Dental, we can ensure you get a thorough, even whitening experience, all while protecting your safety and comfort.

Teeth Whitening Options from Opalescence®

But we understand every patient has different needs and goals. That's why we offer a number of different whitening options, all under the Opalescence® brand. Here are some of your options:

  • Opalescence® Boost: This is the quickest and simplest whitening option we offer. It's a 60-minute in-office treatment using Opalesence's clinically proven whitening gel, which contains potassium nitrate and fluoride (which goes beyond whitening your teeth to also strengthen them). This process doesn't require heat lamps or ultraviolet rays – Dr. Evola will apply the gel, and in 60 minutes you'll be done. It's fast, it's simple, and it's effective.
  • Opalescence® Treswhite Supreme: If, for whatever reason, an in-office treatment doesn't seem like the best choice for you, perhaps these disposable, pre-filled trays are a better choice. Some patients use these trays as the start of a whitening treatment, while others use them between in-office treatments to complement those visits. Either way, these disposable trays, which are designed to fit comfortably over your teeth, can be worn at home for between 30 and 60 minutes a day.
  • Take-Home Whitening Kits: Finally, you can also opt for the Opalescence take-home whitening kits. These kits differ from the Treswhite supreme trays discussed above in that the trays are not disposable and are custom-designed to fit the specific shape of your teeth. We often combine these take-home kits with in-office treatments – this decision will be based on the severity and type of your staining.

As you can see, there are a number of treatment options available to you. Dr. Evola will answer your questions about teeth whitening, explain your options to you and help you find a course of treatment that is right for you and your preferences.

Teeth Whitening Questions

What causes teeth to become discolored?

There are many factors in our daily lives that can cause staining or discoloration of our teeth. Some of the most common are drinking coffee, black tea or colas, and smoking. Other causes can be certain medications like tetracycline taken at an early age and even genetics. Every person is unique and some have brighter and whiter enamel than others have.

Are professional whitening treatments better than over-the-counter products?

Yes. Professional tooth whitening, whether done in the office or with take home kits, produces a brighter and whiter smile than over the counter products can. Professional strength whitening gel is stronger and the trays in a take home kit are custom-made to fit your teeth closely. Over-the-counter products do not have custom fitted trays, which can result in uneven and unnatural looking results.

What professional teeth whitening procedures are available?

There are two types of professional tooth whitening options-- in-office and at-home. In-office techniques, take just one treatment to make dramatic changes to your smile and with proper care will last for years.

At-home kits are another alternative. Dr. Evola will create custom-made mouth trays to go with your Opalescence® take home kit. Your trays may be worn at night or for just a few hours during the day. The choice is yours although Dr. Evola will make a recommendation for what he thinks will work best for you. At-home teeth whitening is more gradual than in-office treatment and may take up to two or three weeks before you see the full effect.

How white can my teeth become?

Again, because each person's enamel is unique to them, there's no way to say for certain how white your teeth will become. With Zoom! treatments the expected whitening is 6 to 10 shades lighter than your original color.

How long will my new white smile last?

The answer partially depends on your lifestyle. If you regularly drink coffee, black tea, colas or red wine and you smoke, you'll need another whitening treatment sooner than someone who does none of those things.
